Step-by-step: How to Create a Sultry 70s Fringe

When you have worked in the hair industry for over 17 years, you see and hear a lot of information and get to experiment with new products and new hair trends that emerge. You’re the first to see what’s popular, what works with fashion, and like many good hairdressers, you get an understanding of your clients’ needs to express their individuality and true sense of themselves, even as this evolves over time.

Angela Soong has a deep love of hair and taking pride in her appearance that started from a very young age. She learnt to braid her own hair when she was just 8 years old because she just couldn’t go to school with a pony tail! A valued member of the De Lorenzo Education team, Angela is a Pixel Hair Art specialist and is a featured guest artist in the De Lorenzo education calendar. She always loves sharing her knowledge with others, helping salons and hairdressers achieve the extra edge from her expertise. When asked about the latest trends she is seeing at the moment she didn’t hesitate to share her knowledge with us.

Angela says, “I feel that multi-dimensional colours are really coming into trend right now - no more one colour all over vibes! You want the illusion that it's one colour but in fact it's more than one colour giving you a subtle but personalised effect, leaving your hair with beautiful tones and creating light and depth in your colour.

Along with multi-dimensional colour, also trending is that sultry 70s textured haircut. This is how I would create a sultry 70’s fringe and style it.

1. I would use my  Elements Densify to blow dry my fringe using a comb with a back and forth motion with my hairdryer above. We do this to help smooth out any natural growth patterns and stretch the hair down.

2. Get a medium round brush and place it on top of the hair, curling the fringe upwards with the hairdryer underneath. This will create a flick motion.

3. To smooth the ends: Place the round brush under the fringe on the ends to smooth and move the brush and hairdryer in the direction you want the flicks to go.

4. To finish and give texture I use

Elements Sandstorm and to give shine a spritz of Afterglow."70-s-style-blog-image

“I like to see a subtle modern vibe to that carefree feminine look. This is all on trend now. A similar modern 70’s look with a longer fringe was also captured in the ‘Hotel de Lorenzo Spring Summer collection’ and I especially loved seeing the images oozing the carefree sophistication of this feminine look”
