Scalp and Skin Health = Beautiful Hair!

17th Nov 2023

It astounds me by the amount of people that spend loads of money and time on looking after the skin on their face but give little acknowledgment to the scalp. The fact is your scalp is also skin! So we should really be taking good care of that scalp if we want to slow down the ageing process of the hair follicles which in turn means holding on to youthful looking hair for longer.

My name is Jason McRae I.A.T and I am a resident Trichologist for De Lorenzo and I feel very blessed to be a Trichologist with a hairdressing background as I can help people with what ultimately is the best regime for BOTH hair and scalp.

The change of season from winter into spring/summer is a long awaited celebration, both physically and mentally for most human beings. The physical aspect to me is the most interesting, especially for those that suffer from certain skin disorders such as Psoriasis or Eczema. When a Trichologist is presented with such skin disorders a common therapy is often to increase Vitamin D in the diet, usually due to a deficiency, most common in winter. In the warmer months we tend to spend more time in the sun, which in turn increases the amount of vitamin D that the body will naturally produce and absorb. If ever you have wondered why your Psoriasis is worse in winter, this is usually the answer, more vitamin D helps reduce the severity of the symptoms of Psoriasis.

Now let’s get talking about that treatment regime that may be lacking at home.

Here at De Lorenzo we are so fortunate to have the Tricho Series, non-medicated , plant based skin therapy range that also contains great ingredients for the hair, unlike many medicated products that may be available that can cause many health side effects which can also leave the hair feeling dry and your beautiful colour stripped from the hair shaft.

The Tricho series is Ph balanced to the natural Ph of the skin which is 4.5 – 5.5 and whilst the skin remains at this Ph the natural microbiome on the skin will be controlled. If this range were to be altered the natural microbiome would become uncontrolled which could lead to irritation, redness and itching of the skin. The Ph is also extremely important to your hair colour, as when the Ph is balanced, your hair colour will remain unaffected and the hair will be soft, smooth and detangled. It is great that the Tricho Series is one of the only professional salon based ranges on the market that can treat a very broad range of skin disorders, but also help treat the hair so it can grow to the best of its ability.

In conclusion, I would really urge everyone to spare a moment’s thought for your scalp and ask yourself the following questions:

1.How often do you give your scalp a specific scalp treatment?

2.Have you ever asked your hairdresser for scalp treatment options?

3.Would you like your hair to feel more youthful?

4.Does your hair lack in volume/thickness/nourishment/manageability?

If any of these questions have caused you to think about how unhappy you are with your hair and scalp, please don’t despair, this is a fantastic opportunity to get onto those concerns and get yourself on a professional regime that will honestly change your life.

Thank you for reading.
