4th Jun 2021

This week, fashion made a triumphant return to Sydney as the city was infused with the effervescence of 2021 Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW); a much needed return to a thriving, inspiring and aspirational place after the year that was!

On Tuesday 1st June, De Lorenzo experienced this true celebration of spirit, and all things fashion hitting the catwalk again, teaming up with their collaborative partner, Australian fashion designer, IXIAH, for their exclusive runway debut at AAFW, the unequivocal pinnacle event on the Australian fashion calendar.

Showcasing their Resort 2022 fashion collection, “Joie de Vivre”, IXIAH revealed a joy of artistry, taking on the expression to bring life and emotion to the creative inspiration of each piece. Paying homage to artistic techniques is at the core foundation of this collection.

Evoking rawness, cultural adrenaline and cross referencing the ‘Roaring 70s’, “Joie de Vivre” presents styles you can wear today and pass onto generations. Roaring florals echo throughout the collection, welcoming playfulness with three multi-toned prints on a diverse range of ensembles.

Femininity and sensual techniques were found in the denim division range with flirtatious corsetry lace-ups and paisley embroideries providing elements of differentiation. Hero prints also took to the catwalk, with mosaic and Persian print-inspired textures presented on decadent forms and shapes.

At the helm of Hair Direction for De Lorenzo was Brand Ambassador and industry luminary, Brad Ngata, with assistance provided by De Lorenzo educator, Jason McRae and a host of highly experienced and creative hairdressers.

To complement the joy, artistry and creativity behind the collection, Brad and his team created gorgeous and inspired hair for the runway live show; an effortlessly chic and feminine style featuring a ‘bungee’ bend, creating movement in the hair with a matte texture and relaxed flyaways. A super sexy yet simple and understated style that oozes coolness.

De Lorenzo’s high performance products were the stars behind the styles, with Extinguish, Densify and Sandstorm the standouts to achieve the look and provide longevity.

IXIAH are known for their unique, innovative styles that become timeless, forever pieces. In addition to representing the ‘joy of dressing’, the IXIAH Resort 2022 collection has also been created with the planet in mind; limiting textile wastage, designing with only eco-friendly materials in mind and building an entirely transparent supply chain becoming a part of the IXIAH brand ethos.

The brand alignment is truly one of sharing core brand principles and values, and neither brand would ever compromise on less than this.

“As a Creative Director, aligning the IXIAH brand with another company is not an easy decision to make. To ensure this is reputable to both parties, we need to ensure we share the same vision. The partner needs to have an appreciation for a unique approach to design, the alignment needs to be of a genuine nature and I am extremely cautious as sustainability and vegan-friendly are important factors. All of these factors are what drew me to the De Lorenzo brand,” says IXIAH’s Creative Director, Krystel English.

To achieve this style, Brad recommends the following steps:

  1. Apply De Lorenzo Extinguish through the hair before blow-drying.
  2. Once dried, take a horseshoe section of hair (from temple to temple) and pin the top up.
  3. Taking a section/panel of hair, apply 2 pumps of Densify to the root area and 1 pump to the mid-lengths and ends, diluting the product through the hair. Work around the head in sections/panels.
  4. Complete Step 3 throughout the top section of hair.
  5. To begin the Bungee Bend, take a curling tong and section off the hair (the approximate width of the tong).
  6. Take the first section and heat the mid-section of the hair with the wand. Wrap and direct the hair away from the face and move the wand up and down the mid-section, stretching out the curl to create a bend.
  7. Allow each section to sit and cool.
  8. Alternate sections next to each other and direct hair in the opposite curl direction.
  9. Work through the hair, alternating each section – one forward, one back.
  10. Drop top section of hair, find the part and continue, with first two sections sitting away from the face.
  11. Spritz completed style with Sandstorm and let sit to cool.
