Let your hair down – hairstyling tips for long hair

31st Mar 2020

Taming a long mane of luscious locks can seem like a daunting task; but with a few tricks up your sleeve, letting your hair down won’t seem like such a mean feat. Whether it’s quick and simple styling tips for rushing out the door in the morning, or styling that requires a little more effort, you’ll be confident to use your lengths to your advantage from now on.

Quick, Simple and Stylish

LET YOUR HAIR DOWN

One of the best ways to add instant volume to long hair is by creating a deep side part. Having a centre part can often result in flat hair from the long lengths weighing it down. To get back some of that volume, here are some quick tips to pin back your hair for simple styles ready for night or day.

Start by washing your hair with our Prescriptive Solutions Moisture Balance Shampoo and Conditioner, which helps to lock in moisture and offers superior strengthening properties for healthier, youthful and more lustrous hair. Blast dry hair with dryer, adding The Ends to add hydration and sealing your hairs frazzled cuticles to create a silky smooth finish. Create a deep part down your hair line. Here is where the options are endless; pin back or braid a small section of hair or pull to the back or side whilst pinning appropriately to keep hair out of your face – simple and easy for any day or occasion!

Fishtail Braid

The Fishtail Braid has been around for centuries – this look goes hand in hand with ladies blessed with long and luscious locks.

Although fishtailing may look confusing, believe us when we say it’s just a matter of a little practice. Luckily with this style it doesn’t matter if your hair is clean or ready for a wash – apply Allevi8 Shine Serum from our Instant range for a weightless finishing serum with UV protection, which smoothes and seals the hair cuticle leaving a glossy, grease free shine. Your next step is to divide your hair into two sections. Pull a thin strand of hair from the outer section of the first part (this can either be left or right, depending on which you are most comfortable with) and pull it over the first part while adding it under the second section on the other side – making sure the strand of hair goes over the first section and finishes under the second section. Continue by doing the same on the other side and keep alternating until you see your fishtail form!

The great thing about fishtail braids is you can make them as neat or messy as you’d like by lightly spraying over your fishtail with Ocean Mist from our Elements Water range to add extra texture or apply Quicksand from our Elements Earth range to the roots of your hair to add instant volume and root lift that will defy gravity.
