De Lorenzo is even more sustainable than before! At De Lorenzo, we are as much about committing to the health of your hair, as we are to the health of the environment!

For 35 years, we have considered the impact of our environmental footprint and taken great action during this time improving our manufacturing plant and operations, leading the way in the haircare industry. Now we’re taking this a step further with a closer look at how we can improve our product packaging to be even more sustainable than before!

Currently 75% of our  home haircare retail products are made from 100% recycled packaging materials. Our focus is on using the highest level of recycled content percentage, across our different haircare ranges. 

What is the science behind this you may wonder, and how have we incorporated it into our packaging? 

The use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics is a never-ending cycle of sustainability – which is great news for everyone! 

Converting used plastics into PCR raw materials to produce new plastics is keeping plastics away from landfill and the ocean. This reduces greenhouse gasses, and also our carbon footprint.

Another astounding fact: recycling plastic, rather than making it from oil, saves approximately 1 tonne of carbon dioxide emissions for each tonne of plastic that’s recycled. It also reduces the consumption of raw materials and production of waste. 

As is the nature of the plastics, it is not always feasible to incorporate full 100% recycled material due to the stability and/or construction of the packaging. Hence why De Lorenzo will use the highest (%) level possible where we can!

Another option is RPET and RHDPE plastic, which is very sustainable as it can be 100% recycled – bottle, label and cap – meaning RPET and RHDPE bottles have a lower carbon footprint than Virgin bottles. It takes less energy to recycle and create an RPET bottle than to manufacture a Virgin PET one (recycled polyethylene terephthalate).

Within this science, De Lorenzo ensures our seasonal gift bags are also made from RPET. In terms of performance and handling, both RPET and Virgin Polyester are identical, however it now creates a second use for waste rather than needing to exhaust more fossil fuels.

Always possessing a strong environmental conscience, our endeavour to always produce products that are naturally-based, biodegradable, and cruelty-free sits alongside our approach to our packaging. 

We are proudly  Vegan-certified and accredited (formally) by Choose Cruelty Free, using plant-based and certified organic ingredients that are sustainably farmed and wild harvested wherever possible.
