Foundation Balance - Protein

Our hair is made up of 97% keratin protein, so it’s no wonder Protein is our Foundation Balance. Hair loses protein when the structure of the hair is damaged – think using the wrong products, excessive use of heat styling tools or the impact of other environmental factors - and this can result in your hair feeling brittle, lack lustre, finer than usual, and just plain blah.

De Lorenzo’s Protein Complex will not only fill, seal and strengthen your damaged hair, it will help it to start emanating its WOW factor again by restoring its strength!

Complementary Balances

• Moisture

We now know our hair is comprised of 97% keratin, so the other 3% is the moisture content (including very small amounts of trace elements, minerals and lipids) – and moisture is the #1 internal lubricant for your hair. When hair is moisturised it naturally just feels healthier and more luxurious – and we all love a good hair!

The moisture content of our hair can vary, however if you have the correct moisture balance you’re giving your hair more elasticity, and it’s more manageable and pliable.

• Natural Oils (Sebum)

Just like we exfoliate, cleanse, tone and moisturise our skin to protect it and keep it in tip top condition, our hair & scalp also requires TLC.

Sebum, produced by the sebaceous glands, is nature’s own protector and the external lubricant of the hair. While you’ve been adjusting your hair care routine to guarantee less damage and more moisture retention, sebum will act as your hair’s own superhero!

It will help protect the hair and skin from external elements, sealing in moisture, reducing friction wear and increasing sheen, so your hair will be gloriously glossy!

• pH Balance

As we move onto the 3^rd complementary balance of pH Balance it’s a little bit more scientific! Our pH balance is referred to as our Acid Mantle which provides protection from bacteria and other nasties, and closes the cuticle.

Our skin naturally produces perspiration and sebum and these two make up our Natural Acid Mantle. If there is an imbalance in the pH – maybe you’ve been exercising excessively or you’ve neglected to wash your hair for a little while longer than usual - our skin can become irritated, itchy and flaky, and damage to the hair shaft can be an inevitability.

The ideal pH for hair & skin is between 4.5 & 5.5, and as such (and for your convenience!) all De Lorenzo home hair care products have been acid balanced to this pH and what we call ‘Acid Buffered’ so they can maintain this pH whilst on the hair!
